Forehand carried the match while short backhand returns handed the opponent the net. Deciding tiebreak lost on rushed first volleys.

Forehand was the best part of my game tonight. I could not get a backhand return deep all night against his lefty slice — every one sat short and he came in. Second serve actually held up. Lost the tiebreak on two rushed first volleys.

  • Backhand return sat short against lefty slice.
  • Return depth invited the opponent forward.
  • Forehand was dependable all match.

Serving and partner coverage won the match; floated first volleys remain the leak.

Chris and I served well and closed the breaker. My first volley was late again — floated three of them. Backhand return was better because I stood in closer.

  • First volley floated under pressure.
  • First serve set up easy plus-one balls.
  • Standing closer improved backhand return.

Patient point construction and net finishing produced a straightforward win.

Patient against Dave. Built points with the forehand and finished at net when the ball got short. Backhand depth still short but it did not cost me today.

  • Point construction was clear and patient.
  • Good recognition of short balls.
  • Backhand depth remains short.

  • Second serve was too attackable.
  • Backhand return broke down against an aggressive returner.
  • Tightness in the closing games.

Backhand collapsed once stretched wide; first volley and net play were the deciding weakness.

Backhand fell apart in the second set once he started pushing me wide. First volleys were poor again. Legs were fine in the third.

  • Backhand consistency dropped when stretched wide.
  • First volley continues to break down.
  • Endurance held up into a third set.
